Pearl gemstones are also popularly known as Moti stone. Natural pearls are the world oldest gems and found in the deep-sea oyster beds. Owing to pollution of the seas and global warming in recent times, it is now difficult to get natural pearls since they are found only in clean seas with stable climatic temperature. Natural pearls today are therefore rare and found only in the seas off Australia and Bahrain.
Because of its rarity and very high price, the market today is having a great demand for cultivating and synthetic pearls in the huge Jewellery market.
The most expensive pearls are the south sea pearls which can go up to more than $100,000. Freshwater pearls are the cheapest and comes between $50 to $2000.
Pearls owing to their beautiful white color were considered as a mark of purity. This gemstone was known to be worn by ladies of the royalty and thus considered as a symbol of elegance and class.
This gemstone is commonly worn in Jewellery as it comes in a variety of colors with pure white color in great demand. Astrologically, pearl is associated with the zodiac sign Cancer and the planetary movement of the moon has effects on this gemstone.
The moon is known to prove calmness and peace in a human mind and if the moon is malefic and causing insomnia, depression in an individual, then the pearl is known to provide a beneficial effect.

•It should be wiped with clean, dry , soft cloth before storing to avoid abrasion.
•It should be kept away from off any kind of oil that can further attract dust and grime
•If stains are difficult to remove take, it should be taken it to a jeweler for cleaning.
•Pearl earrings should be kept in a separate box so as to ensure no scratches from other hard Jewellery and diamond.
•Silk/nylon threads can go weak due to wear and tear of many years and should be restrung every couple of years to make sure they are in good shape.
•Pearls should be laid in horizontal layer with padding in between to avoid friction due it rubbing against each other.
Dont’s Of Pearl Gemstone:
•Pearl Jewellery like rings and bracelets should not be used on a daily basis in order to avoid wear and tear.
•One should not use perfume sprays after wearing pearl Jewellery.
•Avoid oiling hair or using hair sprays while wearing any Pearl earrings as it will damage its luster.
•One should not use any chemicals for cleaning pearl Jewellery as the surface will get damaged permanently by harsh chemicals.
•Pearls should not be rubbed with abrasive cloth in order to avoid scratches on the surface.
•It should not be immersed in detergent liquid or solution for cleaning as it will damage the texture.
•It should not be kept in dry condition or air tight containers as pearls brittle due to its organic nature.
