TYPES OF PEARL AND ITS COLOR

White Pearl

They are mainly found along Japanese coasts and can be found in shades of white, silver, cream and ivory with a slight hint of classic French Vanilla. Akoya Pearls are also cultured in China and Vietnam. The saltwater oyster Pinctada fucata martensite is used for culturing Akoya Pearls. 

Freshwater Pearl

The Freshwater Pearls are known for their softer luster, smooth shapes and distinct pastel colors like lavender, pink and peach. There are also plenty of freshwater pearls that have got a unique baroque shape which has earned them the name of baroque pearls. 

They are budget-friendly when compared to some other types of pearls. You can find them in various colors like rose, different hues of pink; silver; cream; cool, bright white as well as ivory. The white freshwater pearls can be considered as the second most well-known variant of pearls. They are cultured mainly in China with Hyriopsis cumingii pearl mussel. These pearls may range in size starting from about 2.0 to 3.0mm and go up to 11.0 to 12.0mm and even larger.

South Sea Pearl

Black Pearl

Black Pearls are the rarest color of this stone. They have higher the luster of a Pearlstone. According to mythology, black pearl is associated with wealth and peace in life.

Tahitian Pearl

Tahitian Pearls come in vivid, dynamic shades of black, brown, green, gold, etc. You can get them in numerous different hues such as jet black, pale dove grey, and dark charcoal grey. The most popular overtones for these Tahitian Pearls include cherry, peacock, blue-green and neutral silver/steel. 

They are cultured in a type of saltwater pearl oyster called Pinctada margaritifera in French Polynesia. The sizes may range from about 8.0 to 9.0mm as well as from 14.0 to 15.0mm and even larger. 

While Tahitian Black Pearl is extremely popular, you can also find Black Akoya Pearls, Black Sea of Cortez Pearls and Black Freshwater pearls in the market. While the Sea of Cortez Pearls are mainly cultured in Mexico and may have blue-green, green, violet, gold, rose, mink and mauve overtones, the Black Akoya Pearls are cultured in China and Japan and have a midnight blue or greenish blue-black overtone.
